Credentialing Standards by Discipline

These Dallas College Faculty Credentialing Standards provide a general credential guide for programs and disciplines offered by one or more of the seven campuses of Dallas College. In accordance ​with SACSCOC Standard 6.2.a (Faculty Qualifications) of the Principles of Accreditation, for each of its educational programs, the institution documents the qualifications of its faculty members (reference the end of this page.)

Individuals utilizing this document should also consult with the appropriate credentialing ​designee at each campus with questions regarding minimum and preferred credential requirements.

Course Types are labeled as follows: T - Transfer; W - Workforce; D - Developmental.

Official Transcript Standard​

Submission of official and relevant credentials (such as transcripts, licensures and certifications) are required for Full-Time Faculty and Adjunct Faculty at Dallas College. All such documentation will be stored and maintained as to meet reporting requirements set forth by SACSCOC and other accreditation agencies. Official transcripts (sealed if physical) should be sent directly to Dallas College from the awarding institution. Faculty must submit transcripts which indicate their highest earned degree and all other credentials specific to the minimum requirements of all relevant credentialing criteria. Faculty are not required to submit undergraduate or other credentials if not specifically related to required qualifications. Documentation which is faxed or labeled as "PRINTED" or "COPIED" will not be accepted as an official credential document. All foreign credentials must be certified at the course-by-course level to ensure all faculty credentialing standards are met in accordance with SACSCOC. View a suggested list of evaluators .

Faculty Credentials

Standards

Standard 6.2.a ( Faculty qualifications ) of the "Principles of Accreditation" reads as follows:

For each of its educational programs, the institution justifies and documents the qualifications of its faculty members.

When an institution defines faculty qualifications using faculty credentials, institutions should use the following as credential standards:

  1. Faculty teaching general education courses at the undergraduate level: doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline or master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
  2. Faculty teaching associate degree courses designed for transfer to a baccalaureate degree: doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline or master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
  3. Faculty teaching associate degree courses not designed for transfer to the baccalaureate degree: bachelor’s degree in the teaching discipline or associate degree and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline.
  4. Faculty teaching baccalaureate courses: doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline or master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
  5. Faculty teaching graduate and post-baccalaureate course work: earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
  6. Graduate teaching assistants: master’s degree in the teaching discipline or 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline, direct supervision by a faculty member experienced in the teaching discipline, regular in-service training and planned and periodic evaluations.
