Help Solve Climate Change: Learn How To Speak, so Politicians will Listen

Climate Advocate Training Workshop

Want to help speed up the transition to a clean, renewable energy economy? One that generates local jobs?

The 2018 Citizens' Climate Lobby — Climate Advocate Training Workshop was held on Thursday, Feb. 22, at Mountain View.

The CCL process is nonpartisan and based on appreciation, gratitude and respect. The purpose of the workshop is to teach attendees how to create the political will for climate solutions through engagement with their local, state and federal governments.

The purpose of the training is three-fold:

  1. To introduce the Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) to the district and community members (including CCL's history, mission, methodology and legislative proposal).
  2. To demystify citizen lobbying.
  3. To immerse new volunteers in CCL values so that they begin to feel comfortable making decisions in the field.

Attendees will learn how to increase student and higher education engagement in the political process using CCL's highly successful and proven methods:

  •     Cultivating relationships
  •     Conducting outreach
  •     Fostering civic engagement
  •     Obtaining endorsements
  •     Mentoring interns and students leaders

The Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that uses citizen engagement to bring about positive legislative change in state and national legislatures. In 2017, they were the catalyst for 1,653 lobby meetings, 72,721 letters to Congress, 4093 published media articles and 3,247 outreach events.

Their mission is to:

  1. Build the political will for a livable world. CCL believes that politicians respond to political will and it's our job to build political will.
  2. Empower people to have breakthroughs in personal and political power.

CCL has been successful because they are respectful and collaborative. They are guided by, and always return to, their core values. You can visit their website to learn more about CCL.
