Bina Venkataraman is a thought leader on the topics of social progress, emerging technology, and environmental change, delivering a rousing call to reclaim our innate power to shape the future. A journalist, policy expert, futurist who served as an advisor in the Obama White House and taught at MIT, Venkataraman has built a reputation for life-changing talks. Venkataraman is also an esteemed author and with her book, The Optimist’s Telescope, and insightful lectures, she points toward how we can reclaim the human capacity for foresight and how people, businesses, and society can invest in the future to become better ancestors.
Venkataraman is an alumna of Brown University and Harvard’s Kennedy School. She is the recipient of a Fulbright, a Princeton in Asia fellowship, a Metcalf fellowship, and a James Reston fellowship. She serves on the Brown University President’s Leadership Council, the advisory council of the Institute at Brown for the Environment and Society, and the advisory board of the Metcalf Institute. She was named a 2015 Global Young Leader by the French-American Foundation. She lives in Boston, where she works as the Editorial Page Editor for The Boston Globe.
