John Wentz, M.S., MLS(ASCP)

Adjunct Faculty

John Wentz joined El Centro’s Medical Lab Tech program in 2008 as an adjunct faculty member and became full-time faculty in 2012. He previously worked in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He has been a medical laboratory scientist since 1993 and involved in laboratory education since 1997.

He holds a Master of Science degree in health studies from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from UT Southwestern School of Allied Health Sciences. He also earned an Associate in Applied Sciences degree in electronics technology from Mountain View ​and had a first career as an electronics draftsman and technician. He also worked in the lab of Baylor Hospital for more than three years and was with the UT Southwestern laboratory science program for nine years.

John promotes the clinical laboratory profession through volunteer activity in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. He is certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a medical laboratory scientist (MLS), a designation given to those who have earned bachelor’s degrees. A “naturalized” Texan, John has lived in southwest Dallas County since 1973.
