In Ray’s 28 years at El Centro College, he served in many capacities, including director of community services, dean of technical occupational/continuing education, dean of physical and social sciences and finally as interim vice president of instruction.

Through his leadership, many constituencies in Dallas County have positively impacted: Dallas County Jail inmates, Dallas Police and Fire recruits, Southeast Asian refugees and the Dallas County health community.

His professional service included leadership positions in Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA), American Association of Community and Junior Colleges (AACJC), the Texas Association of Community Service and Continuing Education (TACSCE), for which he served as president in 1981.

Ray was active in the DCCCD Retirees Association, chairing the Association Scholarship Guidelines and Association Nominating committees and served as Museum Trip Coordinator for three years. Over 11 years he donated 3,150 hours to the Resource Center of Dallas, earning him the center’s highest volunteer award, the John Thomas Award for exceptional volunteer service.
