In honor of both American Education Week and International Education Week, Nov. 17-21, we’re highlighting Dallas College’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education, a program helping build a pipeline of teachers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

When Yarumi Leon transferred to Texas Woman’s University this fall to study social work, she was in good company. More than half of TWU’s transfer students come from Dallas College. SirMark Gentry transferred to West Texas A&M University after discovering their electrical engineering program fit his lifestyle and goals. Both were helped along their journey by Dallas College Transfer Services.

Attend the On-Campus Student Hiring Job Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at all Dallas College campuses! Faculty, staff and administrators from multiple Dallas College departments will be available to answer questions about student job opportunities. 

National Aviation Day is Aug. 19, and we’re celebrating Dallas College’s Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program.

Last month, Erika Ramirez graduated with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. As one of our seven commencement speakers, she shared more about juggling school with being a wife and mother and how Dallas College’s support has helped her continue her education. 

On May 12, Dallas College celebrated its first graduating class of the new Bachelor of Science in Nursing program with a pinning ceremony featuring student speaker Nancy Kinuthia.

One night, as he was watching his two children play, LeShawn Lee knew he had to break the cycle. He, just like his dad, had not graduated high school. Fast-forward to today and Lee is now a college graduate. He finished Dallas College’s Welding Technology associate degree program in December and will walk the coveted graduation stage in May.

Through the Office of International Engagement and Global Competitiveness (IEGC), the college started offering what is known as COIL — collaborative online international learning — opportunities in the Fall semester. The program is expanding its efforts in the Spring.

Ray Huang couldn’t believe all of the high-tech gaming equipment and computers available for students competing in esports at the Richland Campus. He had a similar reaction when he went to the part of campus that housed the manufacturing lab’s cutting-edge technology and systems. Huang was among 30 students from the Education Department of New Taipei City, Taiwan, who toured Dallas College earlier this month.

There isn’t a drop of oil anywhere. There isn’t one tool out of place. Dallas College alum Christopher Manning keeps his work area at the Mercedes-Benz of Plano service center as pristine as the cars in the showroom. He’s driven to end the old “dirty mechanic” stereotype as he has become a leading voice in the industry.

Dallas College students ended the Spring 2024 semester with awards and accolades. Thirty-one students brought home gold from SkillsUSA, students returned from Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst with 15 top honors and fashion students highlighted their creations for 400 guests at the Future of Showcase. Award-winning pastry student Ainsley Roberts is headed to the French Alps for a summer internship.
