Actors rehearse the play The Foreigner.

Actors in the upcoming play "The Foreigner" rehearse under the direction of Dusty Reasons Thomas.

Theater professor Dusty Reasons Thomas is directing a production of "The Foreigner" opening this month at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre.

Eastfield students Josh Taylor and Caroline Ceolin are working as assistant stage managers under professional Liz Loyale Carr.

The show opens Aug. 24 and runs through Sept. 22.

"I am excited to do this show because the themes of acceptance and diversity are incredibly relevant in today's landscape, and this show is all about the spectrum of how different people view 'foreigners' and outsiders," Thomas said. "Plus the script is incredibly funny and heartwarming."

Larry Shue's play follows Froggy and his friend Charlie to a fishing lodge. To protect pathologically shy Charlie, Froggy tells everyone that his friend speaks no English. Thus Charlie learns everyone's secrets, including a conspiracy to take over the lodge.

Shows are 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays during the run.

The Pocket Sandwich Theatre is located at 5400 E. Mockingbird Lane No. 119, Dallas.
