During the month of November, MVC interim President Dr. Sharon Davis announced a new initiative aimed at ending food insecurity and eliminating barriers to student success. The goal was to collect more than 5,000 pounds of food and or dollars as part of MVC’s Pack the Pantry Food Drive. After all the donations were weighed and counted, Dr. Davis’ goal was crushed by more than 3,000 pounds. Thanks to donations from our network of employees, students and community groups, the food drive brought in 8,170 pounds of food to serve our students during the winter months.

“The goal of this project was to make sure every Mountain View College student has access to food,” Davis said. “The outpouring of support from this campus, this community and local businesses shows just how dedicated we all are to our students and removing barriers to their success.”

Because of the overwhelming success of the food drive, there is more food than there is room in our existing pantry location. Storage space is being made on campus for the additional food and personal care items. The MVC Food Pantry is located in room S1016, on the first floor of the S Building, directly next to MVC’s Student Life offices. The pantry is open to students, faculty or community members in need.
