(DALLAS) — Dr. Alice Villadsen, president of Brookhaven College, has been elected to serve as a member of the board of directors for the American Association of Community Colleges. AACC, formed in 1920, is the primary advocacy organization for the nation's community colleges, representing more than 1,100 associate's degree-granting institutions and approximately 10 million students. Villadsen is the newest of several AACC board members who are or were administrators with the Dallas County Community College District.

Villadsen, who became president of Brookhaven in 1998, previously served as vice president for instruction at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, N.C. She also has served as both dean of instruction and dean of administration at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Ala.

The Brookhaven College president holds a doctorate in higher education/administration, a master's degree in English and a bachelor's degree in secondary education, all from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She did post-doctoral work at the Institute for Future Presidents, North Carolina Community College System; the Executive Leadership Institute at the League for Innovation in the Community College; and AACC's Professional Administrators Development Institute. She has served as president of the Alabama Association of College Administrators; the Alabama College Association; and the Alabama Association of Women Deans, Administrators and Counselors.

Villadsen has written a number of published articles about community college education and has presented routinely at national association workshops. She also has volunteered her time in several communities and currently serves on the boards of directors for the Dallas Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, RHO Hospital and several local chambers of commerce.
