(DALLAS) – Isaac Faz, associate vice chancellor for public and governmental affairs at the Dallas County Community College District, has been tapped to join the Dallas Regional Chamber's Leadership Dallas Class of 2017. The 55 new members were announced in August, and this week participants begin a 10-month education program that develops their leadership capabilities as they build strong relationships with classmates and current community leaders.
Founded in 1975, Leadership Dallas prepares diverse leaders who can serve as catalysts and sustainers of positive change for the quality of life in the Dallas region. The program is a professional development opportunity for women and men who are both acknowledged and aspiring leaders. Individuals who are selected for the program already have demonstrated a commitment to serve the community.
“The Leadership Dallas Class of 2017 has been selected based on members' commitment to the Dallas community as well as their high potential for leadership,” said Dale Petroskey, president and CEO of the Dallas Regional Chamber. “We are proud to welcome these talented, committed individuals into the program, and we look forward to working with them so that they can contribute even more to help make Dallas the best place in America to live, work and do business.”
The program uses lectures, discussion groups, on-site visits, simulations, class projects and other leadership development activities to help participants gain a deeper understanding of critical issues facing the community; they then are challenged to apply their talents toward addressing those issues in the future.
“I'm excited and humbled to participate in the leadership program,” said Faz. “This is a great opportunity to build coalitions with like-minded individuals who firmly believe we can make a positive impact in our community.”
Faz joined DCCCD in June 2015 and serves as an advocate for the district and its students at the Texas Capitol and in Washington, D.C. Before he joined DCCCD, Faz worked as an attorney in Dallas and in the White House Office of the United States Trade Representative. Prior to earning his juris doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston and his bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Texas at Austin, Faz attended DCCCD. He is licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas; serves as vice president of the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association; and, in 2015, was Dallas Independent School District co-chair of the Future Facilities Task Force, which led to the largest bond passage in Dallas ISD history. In addition, Faz was a State Bar of Texas Leadership Fellow in 2014-2015 and a Leadership ISD Fellow that same year.
Leadership Dallas has graduated more than 1,900 men and women who continue to provide leadership in the region. Many alumni have advanced to the top executive role in their current organizations; founded their own businesses; or entered careers in public service. Leadership Dallas graduates include former police chiefs, former U.S. ambassadors and elected officials at the city, state and national levels.
