Brookhaven College received the Tree Campus USA recognition for the fourth consecutive year on Feb. 2. The school's latest recognition was awarded for the previous year of 2016. Tree Campus USA is an Arbor Day Foundation program created to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals.

Schools that earn this distinction must meet the following five core standards of campus forest management by having:  a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and a student servicelearning project.

Brookhaven College is located on a former farm and covers 195 acres. The campus is home to many native and ornamental trees. Bordered by a wild thicket at the southwest corner and a creek along the north side, this "urban forest" is a resource for wildlife as well as our students and our community. Since 2013 Brookhaven College has planted more than 400 trees.
