Join distinguished American journalist, Dan Rather, for a timely and relevant discourse on the topic of patriotism Feb. 13 in the Brookhaven College Performance Hall from 10:30-11:50 a.m.
As we struggle to define our national identity, Rather has emerged as a voice of reason reflecting on what it means to be an American. From politics, the media, current events and our country's most pressing issues, his captivating stories and inspiring wisdom ensure a thought-provoking and memorable encounter.
Rather's career has spanned more than six decades chronicling our world and nation. As a living witness to historical change covering the world's biggest new stories, he offers an intimate view of history, tracing where we have been in order to help us chart a way forward. He examines the freedoms that define us, the values that have transformed us, the institutions that sustain us, and the traits that helped form our young country.
A native Texan and graduate of Sam Houston State University, Rather began his career in radio. During 44 years at CBS, including 24 years as anchor of the CBS
Evening News, he interviewed every president since Eisenhower and personally covered history-making events from the Kennedy Assassination through Viet Nam, Watergate, Tiananmen Square, the fall of the Berlin Wall, 9/11 and the Iraq invasion.
