(DALLAS) — The colleges of the Dallas County Community College District will celebrate Constitution Day in September with programs, giveaways and entertainment on their campuses. Lectures and panel discussions about the U.S. Constitution are some of the activities planned.

A list of Constitution Day activities, noted by date and college, is provided below:

Monday, Sept. 16

  • Eastfield College – Pleasant Grove Campus, 802 S. Buckner, Dallas — 10:30 a.m. — Students will hear an overview about the U.S. Constitution and also will receive pocket booklets of the document in both English and Spanish. The program will be held in the building’s commons area.
  • El Centro College, 801 Main St., Dallas — 12:30 p.m. — Dr. Theresa Daniel, Dallas County Commissioner for District 1, will discuss the U.S. Constitution. The program will be held in ECC’s Student Center.

Tuesday, Sept. 17

  • Brookhaven College, 3939 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch/Dallas — 9 a.m. — Brookhaven College’s Constitution Day event will feature a special guest speaker, former state District Judge John Creuzot, who will talk to students about “Criminal Rights and the Constitution” in room 234 of the K Building. The event is open only to Brookhaven students.
  • Cedar Valley College, 3030 N. Dallas Ave., Lancaster — 12:30 to 2 p.m. — A variety of activities, hosted by the Cedar Valley College office of student life, will be held in the courtyard for students and employees as they observe Constitution Day.
  • Eastfield College, 3737 Motley Drive, Mesquite — 12:30 p.m. — Government professor Glynn Newman will moderate a panel discussion about government and the Constitution with EFC faculty members Michael Noble, Jonathan Michelon, Brett Wilkinson and Phoenix Rousseau in room 135 of the C Building. At 6 p.m., pocket booklets of the Constitution will be distributed to students in the Pit (the college’s popular dining area).
  • Mountain View College, 4849 W. Illinois Ave., Dallas — 10 a.m. to noon — MVC history professor Dr. Ryan Pettengill and members of the Mountain View College History Club will host a panel discussion titled “Constitutional Controversies.” The discussion, which will be held in the Treetop Gallery, covers topics in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution — such as freedom of speech, equality of education and freedom of the press.
  • North Lake College, 5001 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving — 2:30 p.m. — North Lake will combine Constitution Day and Welcome Back activities in room 200 of the H Building. The college will host a game show using an American baseball theme, with Constitution-related questions for students. Students also will have a chance to enjoy hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn and sunflower seeds; Uncle Sam will visit, and participants will receive pocket booklets of the U.S. Constitution. (NLC’s North and South campuses in Coppell and Irving will hold similar activities.)
  • Richland College, 12899 Abrams Road, Dallas — 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Students and employees are invited to a free presentation by Dr. Edward Harpham, professor of political science at the University of Texas at Dallas. He will discuss “War Powers: The President and Syria in Perspective” in room 118 of Sabine Hall.
