(DALLAS) — Students in the Dallas County Community College District have access to another option for study and career advancement with the addition of a new education partner, Argosy University. DCCCD students now can transfer their associate's degree credit hours to AU-Dallas if they want to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology.

The partnership will be formalized on Mon., May 5, during an articulation agreement signing at DCCCD's district office, 4th floor, 701 Elm St., in Dallas at 10 a.m. Dr. William Wenrich, chancellor of DCCCD; Dr. Ray Green, president of AU-Dallas; and Dr. Robert Aguero, DCCCD vice chancellor for educational affairs, will participate.

"DCCCD continues to seek new partners in higher education so that we can offer our students more options for their educational and professional growth," said Wenrich. "We welcome Argosy University's Dallas campus as a partner with the district, and we look forward to additional opportunities for our students."

"Argosy University's Dallas campus will provide easy access to DCCCD students who graduate and would like to transfer to our undergraduate degree program in psychology," said Green. "Additionally, they then can pursue a master's or doctoral degree with our institution in that same field." AU-Dallas also plans to add degree programs in education and business.

The objectives of the agreement are: to attract qualified students from DCCCD to AU-Dallas; to ensure the efficient and orderly movement (or transfer) of students from DCCCD to AU-Dallas, while guaranteeing continuous advancement in learning; to provide specific advising for DCCCD student who plan to pursue professional studies at AU-Dallas; to allow for transfer of up to 90 credit hours and a "seamless transition" for DCCCD graduates to AU-Dallas; and to establish academic and administrative coordination between the two institutions.

DCCCD students who would like to transfer to AU-Dallas under this agreement must: be in good academic standing with the district; have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0; have completed or been awarded an Associate of Arts degree or an Associate of Science degree, or have a minimum of 48 credit hours/maximum of 90 credit hours to transfer from DCCCD; have followed the appropriate application process for AU-Dallas to pursue upper-level undergraduate work in psychology; have followed the normal transfer processes of AU-Dallas, meeting all application requirements and deadlines, and paying tuition and fees; and have furnished a final transcript with their degree posted. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

DCCCD, the largest undergraduate institution in Texas, enrolls more than 63,000 credit students and 27,000 continuing education students in its seven independently accredited colleges: Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland. The district also includes the Dallas TeleCollege, part of the LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications, and the Bill J. Priest Institute for Economic Development. Founded in 1965, DCCCD has enrolled more than 1 million students and provides educational opportunities and access for a diverse student population pursuing a two-year associate's degree, a certificate or continuing education classes for lifelong learning.

Argosy University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (http://www.ncahlc.org) and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. AU has 13 primary campuses and six extension sites in 11 states with a fall 2002 enrollment of more than 6,800 graduate and undergraduate students. AU-Dallas offers a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, a postdoctoral program in clinical respecialization and master's degrees in clinical psychology and professional counseling, as well as a bachelor's degree completion program in psychology.
