DALLAS—Brookhaven College welcomed 20 Dallas Museum of Art docents to explore the complex art of printmaking on Nov. 14. The program was coordinated by David Newman, BCSA gallery manager, at the request of DMA docent training director, Ann Dunbar, as an educational opportunity.
Brookhaven students Ted Houston, Goran Maric, Mateus Moura and Sarah Pickett each demonstrated their specialties including screen printing, intaglio, lithography and woodcut.
The DMA docents experienced printmaking techniques in detail from start to finish, wrapping up with a guided tour of Student Exhibition 2 in the Forum Gallery. The display showcases student works completed in printmaking classes utilizing a variety of tools, processes and mediums.
"Seeing the processes as they were being done was a great help in understanding what is involved in the complexity of production," Dunbar said in an email. "The visual examples you had in the Forum Gallery of the finished prints and the tools necessary for the processes were a great introduction to the different mediums."
She said the docents will use their new knowledge of printmaking when giving museum tours that include a collection of fine art prints.
Dunbar complimented Newman and the Brookhaven College students on their knowledge and ability to explain the complexity of the different printmaking techniques.
