(DALLAS) — Signing day for high school student-athletes is important; that letter of intent means they are moving up to the next level of competition. Signing day for high school students at Dallas’ Fair Park during the Dallas County Community College District’s free “Keys to Success” event on Sat., May 13, means they are making a commitment to college and their future success.
DCCCD’s “Keys to Success” or “Las Llaves del Éxito” program will be held for the first time in the Grand Place Building on the Fair Park grounds (3701 Grand Ave.) from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Free breakfast and free parking will be provided (Lot 5 only, off of Robert B. Cullum Blvd.). College freshmen, parents and students in grades 6-12 are invited. Anyone who pre-registers for the event will receive a free T-shirt, too. Visit

“This year, we are celebrating high school students who have decided to go to college,” said Esther Canales, manager of partner alliances for DCCCD.
She added, “We want to recognize high school seniors for their post-secondary plans by hosting a community-wide signing day. We were inspired by the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Signing Day. We are taking that idea and applying it to students who are committing to college when they sign during our program on Saturday.”
Canales said more than 1,000 college-bound students from across Dallas County are expected to participate in the College Signing Day activity during the event. “The program also is a motivational learning day for middle-school students. And parents will be able to use DCCCD’s wage calculator tool to determine the career path that will help their college-bound children meet their basic needs.”
The program starts at 9 a.m., immediately followed by recognition of high school students who are signing up that morning to go to college. Several hands-on activities, plus a keynote speaker are scheduled for students and families. (Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. before the fun begins.)
Exhibitors and representatives from area colleges and universities — plus other nonprofit organizations — will be on site to visit with parents and students. Parents can work with DCCCD’s living wage calculator at the Education Is Freedom parents’ corner, where they also can visit with college and university representatives.
Sponsors for Las Llaves del Éxito/The Keys to Success event are DCCCD, Fair Park, the State Fair of Texas and the University of Texas at Arlington University Crossroads.
