Web Development Technology Camp

Occupatio​ns: Web Developers

Curriculum/Course Description:  An introduction to concepts in programming web applications. Students will learn fundamental elements of programming web sites to produce dynamic content as well as terminology such as HTTP, HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, Design Patterns, and Cloud Deployment.  Hands-on laboratory experiences will include an examination of programming and software design in web development

Graphic Design Technology Camp
Occupations: Graphic Designers, Front End Developers, Multimedia Artists and Animators
Curriculum/Course Description: An introduction to elements of design and imagery as they apply to practical visual solutions, logo design, Web and 3-D design.  Hands-on laboratory experiences will include an examination of the graphic design tools used in the visual arts as well as creative use of the computer as a design tool and illustrative medium. Students will be exposed to the theory and function of major software packages and basic graphic design principles utilized in the visual arts.

Learning in 3-D with Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology Camp

Occupations: Architects, Engineers, Drafters/Engineering Technicians 

Curriculum/Course Description: An introduction to elements of computer aided design as they apply to practical drafting and engineering.  In addition to industry site field trips and/or guest facilitators from professionals in the STEM field, hands-on laboratory experiences will include an examination of the computer tools used in drafting and engineering as well as creative use of the computer as a tool for 3-D design.  Students will be exposed to the theory and function of the major hardware and software technology such as AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Viz 4, Revit and other CAD as well as basic design principles used architecture, design and drafting STEM fields.

Computer Programming and Protecting the Cyber-World: Computer Programming and Cybersecurity Technology Camp

Occupations: Computer Programmers and Computer Systems Analysts 

Curriculum/Course Description: An introduction to various programming tools, basic hardware, and tools/resources.  In addition to industry site field trips and/or guest facilitators from professionals in the STEM field, hands-on laboratory experiences will include the use of Raspberry Pi computers to work on projects ranging from retro arcades to media servers to setting up your own Google Home.  Students will also learn basic cybersecurity best practices, ways to protect information when using the internet, and VPNs (virtual private networks).

Employment Projection for the Dallas Workforce Development Area:

Students will be required to provide THREE (1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice) camp selections on the application form.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP TIMES FOR EACH CAMP WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:
Drop-off: 8 – 9 a.m.
Pick-up: 5 – 5:30 p.m.

CAMP ORIENTATION PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS AND AT LEAST ONE PARENT OR DESIGNATED ADULT FOR EACH CAMP.

G-STEM CAMP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Governor's Summer Merit Program (GSMP) is a Texas Workforce Commission grant-funded program that provides scholarships to Texas middle and high school students in grades nine (9) through twelve (12) and ages 14 to 21 to increase the number of students served in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills-related summer camp programs, who may not have those opportunities otherwise.

G-STEM SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Eligible participants for the Eastfield College G-STEM Camp Scholarship will be students who meet the following state requirements:

•  United States citizen or permanent resident

•  Enrolled in a Texas middle school or high school

•  At least 14 but no more than 18 years of age by the first day of summer camp

•  Are low-income and/or a potential first-generation college student

•  If male, meets U.S. Military Selective Service registration requirements

•  Demonstrates an interest in a STEM related career field
