Over the first weekend in April, Brookhaven College's Student Government Association attended the 2018 Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA) State Convention for Region II held in Austin, Texas and received a record-breaking number of awards and recognitions. Over 70 schools were in attendance.

The group emerged victorious from the Awards Banquet held on Saturday night, April 7 as they placed second in the video competition and received five out of the 10 student awards: Event of the Year, Best Scrapbook, Best Essay, Best Poem and the Sweepstakes Award. This is the first time in its history the Brookhaven College SGA has received an award of any kind.

Furthermore, the team went on to be selected by the executive board as the Spirit of TJCSGA, a special recognition bestowed to a school that embodies the mission of the TJCSGA and serves as a role model to others.

As the elected president and host school for 2017-2018, Brookhaven College played an active role in the planning and coordinating for this year's convention. Student Sonia Aguilera represented the school to help manage the general assemblies and other meetings. Fellow member and SGA vice president Carlos Valbuena was selected to serve as the chair of the Resolutions Committee. Both students held two of the most influential positions at the convention.

Brookhaven College was one of the largest delegations in attendance with 13 students and two advisors. Congratulations to all our SGA students and staff!
