It has been a whirlwind of activity for Alpha Delta Pi, the Brookhaven College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Students and advisors traveled to Houston March 8-10 for the PTK Texas Regional convention and headed out a few weeks later for the 2018 PTK Catalyst international conference April 19-21 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Alpha Delta Pi received multiple honors at the regional convention including designation as a Five Star Chapter, Award of Merit for College Project and recognition for participation in Honors in Action and College Project.
Chapter officers, Francisco Guerrero, Marie Plamin and Carlos Valbuena were recognized in the Five Star Competitive Edge Competition. Anura Shrestha and Rachael Owens were named to the All Texas Academic Team. Edyeris Gonzalez, Marie Plamin and Rachael Owens were named Jack Kent Cooke finalists. Joshua Johnson received the Horizon Award for Advisors.
Thom D. Chesney, Ph.D., Brookhaven College president, was inducted into the Hall of Honor for Chief Executive Officer at the regional convention, and received the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction at the 2018 PTK Catalyst international convention.
PTK advisor, Joshua Johnson extended "rock star" status to Brookhaven's PTK officer team.
"They overcame every challenge and obstacle, grew personally and professionally, and expanded the chapter leaving behind a legacy of greatness," Johnson said. "The opportunity to attend the international convention was the ultimate way to recognize and celebrate their hard work."
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society has 1,285 chapters in the United States and throughout the world. In addition to recognizing academic achievements of college students, PTK provides opportunities for individual growth through leadership, service and fellowship according to the organization's website.
