Get Started
The below information will help you to get started with creating your Handshake profile and start exploring career opportunities.
1. Visit the Handshake login page for Dallas College.
2. You must use your dcccd.edu Dallas College student email to be approved. Learn more about how to access your Dallas College email.
It is important to make sure your profile is professional before making it viewable publicly. Once you set your profile to public, employers and Career Services staff will be able to view.
Make sure your profile is complete. Start by filling in your interests.
Always keep “Your Interests” up to date to ensure the right employers can find your profile.
These three are the most important: Job Interests, Cities and Roles.
- Job Interests: What kind of job are you looking for? Full-time, part-time, internships, on-campus?
- Cities: Where do you want to work? What cities are you interested in?
- Roles: What type of positions are you interested in? What industries are you interested in?
When your professional resume has been reviewed and ready to be viewed by employers, you can upload to Handshake.
How do I upload a new document?
1. Click on your account icon in the upper-right corner of Handshake, then click on My Documents.
2. If you haven't uploaded a document before, you can drag and drop your file to the screen, or click the blue Select from Computer button toward the middle-bottom of the page, then choose the file on your computer.
If you've already uploaded at least one document, you can click on the blue button Add New Document, located in both the upper-right corner and lower-right corner of the page.
In the popup that appears, a preview of your documents will load. Take the following steps:
- Review the Document - The document you upload automatically uses the file name from your computer, but you can make changes as desired.
- Tip: If you're uploading a resume for a specific application, include the company name in the Document Name for future reference!
- Select the Document Type from the dropdown
- Pay special attention to the document type! If you upload a transcript but set the document type as resume, it won't be included in your list of transcript documents when applying to jobs. Make sure the document type accurately represents the document.
- Click Add Document to complete the upload.
Opportunities will be visible on the dashboard of your Handshake account, including Jobs and Events.
