Placement Testing: ESOL/ESL

W​hich test do I need if I want to take ESL noncredit classes?

Students needing placement in a noncredit ESL course take the Future exam. This is a 45-minute, paper/pencil assessment designed to test your knowledge of English literacy. For this assessment, you must meet with your success coach (advisor) to be referred for the exam.

Exam Times

  • Monday - Friday: 10 a.m.
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 3:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 5 p.m.

You need to arrive 30 minutes before the exam start time.


Which test do I need if I want to take an ESOL credit class?

Students needing placement in a credit ESOL course take the ESL Accuplacer exam. This is an online assessment that is divided into three sections: ESL Reading Skills, ESL Listening and ESL Language Use. The test is multiple choice with an essay included in the ESL Language Use section. For this assessment, you must meet with your success coach (advisor) to be referred for the exam.

  • Monday - Thursday: 9:30 a.m.
  • Monday - Thursday: 3 p.m.

Students need to arrive 30 minutes before the exam start time.
