Why is this a Good Career Bet?

Health care reform and an aging population will continue to increase demand for medical services and health-related occupations will add the most new jobs to the economy. As a result, more medical assistants will be needed to perform routine administrative in physicians’ offices and other primary care settings.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 16 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations.

Opportunities for Advancement

With experience, medical assistants can specialize and move into supervisory or leadership roles such as an office manager or practice manager.

With more education, they may advance into a related clinical or administrative field working as a clinical medical assistant, registered nurse, medical coder, health information technician and more.
