This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Early Childhood Education and Teaching Certificate. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn the Early Childhood Education and Teaching Certificate. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

This certificate program provides general courses in early childhood for those wanting to increase their skills and knowledge for working with children. Courses that complete the Early Childhood Education and Teaching Certificate are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites, as long as the student completes the TSI waiver form prior to enrollment.

SEMESTER 2

CDEC 1413 – Curriculum Resources for Early Childhood Programs This course is the capstone experience for this award.

CHOOSE ONE:

  • CDEC 1341 – CDA Preparation for Assessment* OR
  • CDEC 1318 – Wellness of the Young Child*

Contact the Associate Dean of Early Childhood Education and Early Learning if you need more guidance. Students may earn college credit for a CURRENT earned Child Development Associate Credential (CDA). Please contact the Associate Dean of Early Childhood Education and Early Learning for more information.
