This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Computer Aided Design and Drafting.
It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Civil Drafting Certificate. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

This certificate program prepares a student to become certified as an entry-level CADD operator specializing in civil drafting and design. Jobs performed would include the proficient use of the AutoCAD and Civil 3D software to create drawings necessary for civil engineering and/or surveying projects in addition to identifying terms used in civil design. Courses that complete this certificate and the Civil Drafting Occupational Skills Award (COS) are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

DFTG 1409 – Basic Computer-Aided Drafting (Course applies to COS)

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm academic and career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with your success coach to request an official program of study audit and confirm or update your academic/career path and program of study.
  3. Meet with a faculty advisor or success coach regarding placement for the Cooperative Education course, if applicable.

CHOOSE ONE:

  • DFTG 2380 – Cooperative Education-Drafting and Design Technology/Technician, General OR
  • DFTG 2321 – Topographical Drafting This is the capstone for this program. (Course applies to COS)
DFTG 1493 – Special Topics in Civil Drafting and Civil Engineering CAD/CADD (Course applies to COS)

SEMESTER 2 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach for assistance in preparing for job search.
  2. After reviewing your program of study, meet with your success coach to apply for the Computer-Aided Design and Drafting Civil Drafting Certificate and Civil Drafting Occupational Skills Award.
  3. Sign up for Commencement.
  4. Join the Alumni Network!
