Our dental hygiene students check for gum disease, promote good oral health, and offer cavity prevention strategies such as sealants, nutritional education, and fluoride treatments.

 

The following services are provided in the Dallas College dental hygiene cl​inic free of charge:

  • Medical and dental history review
  • Vital signs
  • Radiographs (X-rays)
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Periodontal assessment
  • Dental examination
  • Diagnosis of oral health needs
  • Plaque percentage
  • Application desensitizing agents
  • Injectable and non-injectable anesthesia
  • Polish, floss
  • Prophylaxis (teeth cleaning)
  • Deep cleaning (scaling and root planning)
  • Fluoride
  • Sealants
  • Laser treatment
  • Locally applied antibiotics
  • Oral hygiene instruction and education
  • Oral hygiene aids
  • Care of dental prosthesis
  • Nutritional advisement
  • Smoking cessation
 

The following services are not provided in the Dallas College dental hygiene clinic:

  • Emergency or urgent care
  • Restorative (fillings, crowns, bridges, veneers, etc.)
  • Endodontics (root canals)
  • Periodontal surgery
  • Oral surgery (extraction, implants, etc.)
  • Orthodontics (braces)
  • Jaw pain treatment
  • Removable appliances (dentures, partials, etc.)
 

Having your teeth cleaned in the Dallas College dental hygiene clinic is not a substitute for regular visits to your dentist. Patients who require dental services beyond the scope of the preventive services provided are referred to their private dentist or specialist. For a patient without a dental home, a list of community clinics and offices in the area is provided.
