(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District’s Health Careers Resource Center and Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas will present a free health care career fair on Thursday, April 19, at the Irving Convention Center. More than 100 prospective employers will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Irving Convention Center is located at 500 W. Las Colinas Blvd. in Irving. Parking is free; DCCCD students and the general public are invited to attend. To register for the health care career fair, visit dcccd.edu/HCRCfair.

The event received funds from the Texas Workforce Commission through the U.S. Department of Labor as well as financial support from JPMorgan Chase.

Participants will have access to several career services on site: one-on-one resume advice; “Perfect Pitch,” the 30-second personal introduction; and quick tips for job fair success.

Hiring companies have approximately 15,000 jobs to fill, such as registered nurses, nurse aides, patient care technicians, pharmacy technicians, certified surgical technicians, sterile processing technicians, radiology technologists, telemetry registered nurses, ultrasound technicians, front office coordinators, front office managers, dietitians, engineers and information technology personnel, and food service staff members.

“Health care employers in the DFW area continuously highlight the need for nurses, radiologic technologists, respiratory therapists and surgical technologists — all of which are middle-skill, high-paying occupations,” said Brenda Loya, director of DCCCD’s Health Careers Resource Center.

She said, “Entry-level health care occupations like home health aides, medical assistants, nursing assistants and patient care technicians are always in demand, and it’s a great opportunity to enter the health care field.”

Loya added, “DCCCD offers training programs in each of these occupations, and we play a key role in meeting the needs of employers in our region. Our annual health care career fair, hosted in partnership with Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, has become the largest health care career fair in the county. Last year, more than 700 students and job seekers attended the event.”

A list of participating employers is available at dcccd.edu/HCRCfair. Some of those companies include: Baylor Scott & White Health, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas, CVS Health, HCA North Texas, LabCorp, Methodist Health System, Parkland Hospital, Southwest Transplant, Texas Health Resources, UT Southwestern Medical Center, Walgreens and many others.
