(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District’s STEMInsight.org is a recipient of the 2018 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The Inspiring Programs in STEM Award honors colleges and universities that encourage and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

DCCCD’s STEMInsight.org will be featured in the September 2018 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, along with 77 other honorees. Award winners were selected by the magazine based on their efforts to inspire and encourage a new generation of young people to consider STEM careers through mentoring, teaching, research, and successful programs and initiatives.

“We know that many STEM programs are not always recognized for their success, dedication and mentorship for underrepresented students,” said Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “We want to honor the schools and organizations that have created programs which inspire and encourage young people who may currently be enrolled in or who are interested in a future STEM career. We are proud to honor these programs as role models for other institutions of higher education and beyond.”

Pearlstein added, “It’s a fact that underrepresented professionals who work in STEM fields enjoy significant opportunities to engage in new discoveries and innovations on a global scale. To advance diversity, promote equality and build a stronger U.S. workforce, we at INSIGHT recognize the importance of increasing the number of people from underrepresented groups entering the STEM professions.”

Dr. Jason Treadway, director of DCCCD’s STEM Institute, said, “We are honored to receive this recognition for our STEM efforts throughout the district and in our community. It’s a pleasant surprise to be honored at the national level for our efforts, which benefit our students and support their success both in school and in the workforce by encouraging them to pursue STEM careers.”

A call for award nominations was announced in April 2018. For more information about the award program, visit insightintodiversity.com.
