(DALLAS) – Dr. Jesus “Jess” Carreon, chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, announced the appointment of Carol Ann Brown as the new president of Eastfield College, following approval by the DCCCD board of trustees during its monthly meeting on Dec. 6. Brown, who currently serves as president of Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee, Wis., begins her tenure at EFC on Feb. 1, 2006. She succeeds Dr. Rodger Pool, former president of Eastfield, who now serves as special assistant to the chancellor and who is involved in planning and developing two new education centers in Garland and Pleasant Grove.

“I am pleased to welcome Carol Brown to the Dallas County Community College District family,” said Carreon. “As the new president of EFC, I know she will cultivate many positive relationships with students, faculty and community members. We look forward to her administration and her leadership at Eastfield College.”

Brown, who is happy to return to Texas, said, “I am very excited and honored to serve as Eastfield’s next president. The Dallas County Community College District is a wonderful system, and this appointment represents a high point in my career.”  She added, “As Eastfield grows and we plan for the addition of two new education campuses in Garland and Pleasant Grove, I look forward to working with everyone on these new opportunities.”

Before she joined WCTC in 2002. Brown served as vice chancellor for academic and student affairs and dean of academic and student services at Oakland Community College in Bloomfield, Mich. She also served as coordinator of social sciences and the public services division and as the chair of the history department in the Houston Community College System. Her teaching experience includes assignments at Oakland and in Houston.

Brown currently is completing her doctorate at Michigan State University. She has a master’s degree in American history from the Catholic University of America and a bachelor’s degree in social studies education from the State University of New York.

WCTC has a student population of 33,000; its annual budget is $90 million and includes 500 full-time employees with two campuses and one additional site.

Brown has been involved extensively in the community at WCTC. She is a member of the advisory board for the Waukesha Foundation; the board of directors for the Blue Heron Girl Scout Council; the board of directors for LaCasa de Esperanza; the board of directors for the Public Policy Forum of Greater Milwaukee; co-chair of the educational division for United Way (Waukesha); and many other organizations. She has served as a presenter at several statewide conferences and symposiums as well.

The new EFC president is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Council for Continuing Education and Training (president); the American Association of Community Colleges; the American Association of Higher Education; the American Association of Women in Community Colleges; the American Association of University Women; the League for Innovation in the Community College; and others.
