(IRVING) — Each step matters. And each step in the “Walk for Freedom” represents the fight against human trafficking and a move toward healing.
Hosted by North Lake College, the 2018 “Walk for Freedom” is an international awareness campaign which seeks to end human trafficking and forced labor. The global walk — known for its single-file lines of participants dressed in black — will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. in the G-Building parking lot; the college is located at 5001 N. McArthur Blvd. in Irving. The official walk begins shortly after a rally at 11 a.m.
This year, North Lake is the only Dallas County location where the walk will be held.
Participants must register online at
a21.org/irving. Admission is free; donations are encouraged and will be used to support the global nonprofit organization
A21, which seeks to combat human trafficking through a multi-dimensional strategy: reach, rescue and restore. Through partnerships, A21 works to identify and assist victims and bring perpetrators to justice
Members of the general public are invited to join North Lake students and employees for the event. Representatives from
Mosaic Family Services, a nonprofit Dallas area group that assists survivors of human rights abuses, also will attend.
“Participants are asked to dress in black and walk in single file to bring awareness to this criminal enterprise,” said Jessica Estrada, social media and marketing coordinator at North Lake College. “This is a local walk with global impact. More than 500 cities around the world are participating.“
The fundraising goal for the Irving walk is $5,000.
