(DALLAS) — Who says you can’t go home again? Dallas County Community College District says, “Yes, you can.”

This October, the welcome signs are up as DCCCD plans its first homecoming. “Reunite with friends, share fellowship with distinguished alumni and return to the campuses where your education began,” said Kapreta Johnson, coordinator of alumni and donor relations for the DCCCD Foundation.

“DCCCD has long delivered on its promise to provide a diverse, educated and energized workforce to Dallas County and beyond. The weeklong homecoming commemoration will celebrate the district’s more than 50-year commitment to education,” Johnson said.

“We’re excited to welcome our alumni for DCCCD’s first districtwide homecoming event. Every college will be represented, and we are gathering together to look back at our district’s success and to take a look ahead at where we are going and what we plan to accomplish,” said Dr. Joe May, DCCCD’s chancellor.

He added, “In addition to our districtwide event this month, our colleges are linking their campus homecoming activities to the larger celebration. That’s because we want our alumni involved with their colleges and DCCCD throughout their lives.”

The festivities kick off on Saturday, Oct 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a block party at Eddie Deen’s Ranch, located at 944 S. Lamar St. in Dallas. The block party is free to all DCCCD students, graduates, employees, friends and members of the community who support DCCCD.

Guest disc jockey Lili Villarreal, a DCCCD alum and NOW 102.9 radio personality, will be on hand with her team as guests play games, compete for door prizes and enjoy meals which will be prepared and sold by Dallas-area food trucks.

Reservations for the DCCCD Homecoming kick-off block party are required; RSVP here! For more information, contact the DCCCD Foundation office at 214-378-1831.

The second major homecoming event is the DCCCD Distinguished Alumni Awards program, which will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Tower Club at 1601 Elm St. in Dallas. The district will recognize graduates with the Emerging Alumni Award, the Alumni-Employee Award and the Pillar of the Community Award.

“DCCCD alumni are everywhere in our community,” said Dr. Pyeper Wilkins, executive director of the DCCCD Foundation. “They are employed in every industry, involved in all kinds of community service and serve as role models for thousands of students enrolled in DCCCD colleges today.”

The chancellor added, “These graduates represent our DCCCD values: accountability, cooperation, creativity, diversity, fairness, honesty, integrity, meaningful communications, mutual trust and responsible risk.”

Reservations also are required for the awards program. Tickets can be purchased at foundation.dcccd.edu/alumni-awards.

DCCCD comprises seven individually accredited colleges: Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland.

All seven DCCCD colleges are planning homecoming events. For general information about each school’s activities, visit: foundation.dcccd.edu/homecoming.
