(DALLAS) — Dallas County Community College District students will exhibit their artwork in the Founders’ Foyer of DCCCD’s downtown administrative offices, starting in November, as part of a rotating art exhibit.
Student artists from all seven DCCCD colleges will be recognized during an opening reception on Friday, Nov. 16, at 6:30 p.m.; each student will receive a cash award as well. The exhibit will open on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. as part of the Cedars Open Studios. The district’s administrative office building is located at 1601 S. Lamar St. in Dallas.
The art includes acrylic, chalk, ceramics and photography; the pieces will be featured in the Founders’ Foyer (the lobby area) of the district office as well as the chancellor’s suite on the third floor and the DCCCD Foundation’s office.
“The Founders’ Foyer exhibit represents many talented student artists who attend our colleges throughout the Dallas County Community College District,” said Dr. Pyeper Wilkins, the district’s chief advancement officer and executive director of the DCCCD Foundation. The foundation administers the exhibit and hosts the artists’ reception.
Wilkins added, “We are especially thrilled to participate in the 16th Cedars Open Studios and to showcase our students’ works with the wonderful art community here in the Cedars District.”
This year’s exhibit includes mixed media — chalk, textiles, paint, ceramics, photography and lithography. The artists, their colleges, and the names of their pieces are:

The rotating exhibit is made possible by a gift from the estate of Margaret McDermott, who served on DCCCD’s first board of trustees as vice chair. McDermott, who died earlier this year, was a fierce supporter who advocated the highest standards of artistic expression. DCCCD Foundation board member Lynn McBee chaired the art selection committee whose members reviewed and chose the works for this exhibit.
The exhibit, sponsored by Infinity Contractors Inc., will be displayed until April 2019; many artworks in the show can be purchased once the exhibit closes.
