Four Eastfield students joined the Women's Chorus of Dallas singing backup for
Demi Lovato at her March 7 concert.
Students Ereine Resendiz, Jamiah Sandles, Vanessa Carrasco, and Katherine
Jones and 65 members of the chorus onstage at the American Airlines Center
to sing "Sorry Not Sorry" and "Tell Me You Love Me."
Voice professor Melinda Imthurn directs the Women's Chorus and invited the
students to participate.
"To see their excitement when they first heard the news took me back to why
I fell in love with music in the first place," Imthurn said. "Seeing them onstage,
doing what they love in such a big and bold way, was a rare treat."
Resendiz has been a Lovato fan since middle school.
"Singing alongside one of the personal heroes was an absolute dream come
true," she said. "The set and emotions were indescribable. It was definitely
something I will always remember and keep close to my heart."
Imthurn said the experience was educational as well as thrilling. The day
following the concert, the four students talked to Imthurn's chorus class
about the experience.
One relayed the advice she received from a background singer about working
on a concert tour. They also discussed the physical demands of concert
performance, vocal pacing, concert programming and other aspects of
professional performance.
"Singing at the Demi Lovato concert was the experience of a lifetime for me
because it solidified why I need to perform more often and why it is my
purpose to perform," Sandals said.
