20181107-Veterans-Day-Event27.jpgAt Mountain View College, every day feels like Veterans Day in a way. How so, you ask? Currently, MVC is helping to empower 250 veteran students through higher education. Veterans of all ages can be found roaming the halls at MVC, some in uniform and some not.

On Wednesday, November 7, Mountain View College continued a decades-old tradition by welcoming veterans from around the Dallas area to campus for its annual MVC Salutes the Veterans event. Orchestrated by Student Life and Veterans Affairs offices, MVC hosted a breakfast as well as a special ceremony in honor of veterans. Afterward, the Salute Veterans Honor Society proudly inducted its newest student members in front of a large audience.

Ismael Aleman, a US Army veteran and currently MVC’s Veterans Services Coordinator, understands the importance of recognizing and thanking those for their service. “This event brings together a population of active and non-active military members, different generations of people and those who have shared the same experiences. It sets up a forum for us to celebrate our services as veterans and be able to share it with our community. Military service never ends, this is another way we’re called upon.”

If you or someone you know is a US veteran, MVC’s Veteran Services Department is here to assist you. College is within reach – whether it’s about furthering your education, converting your military experience into college credit, or retraining for a new civilian career. The Veteran Services team on campus is well-versed in interpreting the benefits and resources needed to enroll at MVC.
