MVC’s Career Services is focusing on new initiatives to create professional connections for students while filling the skills gap need. The strategy will bring more guest speakers in to educate students on needed tools and skills to obtain employment.
A few days ago, Mark Joseph-Williams with Texas Industries, spoke to a room full of student-athletes. Joseph-Williams is a Program Manager for the Fortune 500 company and shared words of wisdom and experience with the group.
MVC student-athlete Angel Flowers (pictured left) took Joseph’s words to heart, saying, “She opened my eyes when she talked about how her goal of joining the military didn’t happen and why it’s important for everyone to have a plan B in life. She told us resilience is key because you never know if something might not work out the way you think it will.” Flowers is on the women's basketball team and plans to major in Theatre Arts.
MVC Director of Athletics, Manny Mantrana, was pleased with the turnout. “Teaming up with Tanya Tillman and Career Services for the second session of our new Student-Athlete Life Skills initiative was a huge success. They had the opportunity to hear a top industry recruiter talk about what it takes to secure a job in today’s global market.”
