Winner, Winner, Barbeque Dinner!!!!

The Greater Dallas Restaurant Association held its 3rd annual “Food In Fashion” charity event on August 18th at the Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas. Proceeds from the event benefit career development programs in the restaurant and hospitality industries.

A Highlight of the event was a fashion show of 15 fashion designers partnered with local restaurants. El Centro students Loren Franco, Kara Skinner, Camila Uriarte, Numa Limbu, and Keven Hernandez were led by Adjunct professor, Maria Luna to create a dress representative of their partner restaurant “Off The Bone”. The resulting dress had cooked brisket and sausage, bone necklace, rubber barbequing gloves, and a “to-go box” logo hand bag with dry ice steaming out as the model walked the catwalk. Maria Murillo- fashion design student- modeled the 30-pound dress.

Of 15 “dresses” submitted, El Centro design students were overjoyed winning first place! These students worked multiple sessions and over part of Spring Break to make this edible creation!

El Centro’s Food and Hospitality Institute will benefit from some of the fund raising.
