Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing students had immense success at Fashion Group International (FGI) of Dallas’ 51st Annual Student Competition held April 12.

This year 13 colleges from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Nebraska competed in fashion design and fashion marketing/merchandising competitions. (Most competing colleges are four-year schools).

The runway show consisted of five scenes, each with approximately 10 – 12 garments. El Centro “owned” the stage walking 25% of the time. The students cheered with pride as 14 garments were chosen to “walk” the show.

With four fashion design categories, El Centro students took home awards as follows:

  • Keven Hernandez – 2nd in Little Black Dress ($1,000 scholarship)
  • Numa Limbu- 1st in Little Black Dress ($2,500 scholarship)
  • Mam Matty Sy – 2nd in Menswear ($1,000 scholarship)
  • Kara Skinner- Grand Prize all expense Fall semester studies at Paris American Academy (includes airfare, tuition, housing, spending money).

Fashion Marketing student Arim Lee won 3rd in Digital Portfolio.  A former graduate of El Centro (now a current UNT student) Grace Beraki- 1st in Evening and winner of the Patti Flowers internship.
