- Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006 – Eastfield College
12:30 p.m., room 100, Science Building – A program on the U.S. Constitution will be presented by EFC social science faculty members Dr. Stacey Juhrhee, Glynn Newman and Phoenix Rousseau. They will discuss: constitutional definitions and purposes, America's two constitutions, civil liberties and civil rights, the evolution of voting in the U.S. Constitution, and the Texas Constitution.
- Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006 – North Lake College
10:30 a.m. to noon, college cafeteria – “Celebration of Citizenship”: Irving City Councilman James Dickens will talk to students about one of the nation's most famous living documents, and the college will provide free copies of the U.S. Constitution and free hot dogs and drinks.
- Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 – Richland College
Winners of the Richland College Constitution Day essay writing contest will be announced in September; essays titled "The Role of the Judiciary in the Concept of Constitutional Checks and Balances" were submitted by Sept. 11, and the grand prize winner will receive $300. Judging was based on quality of coherence, example, details and creativity; plus quality of grammar, vocabulary and spelling. Presentation of the award, a speaker and the location will be announced at a later date.
- Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 – Brookhaven College
11:30 a.m., lobby of the Student Service Center – Dr. Harold Stanley, professor from Southern Methodist University, will discuss "Understanding the U.S. Constitution"; reception follows. Music will be provided by members of the BHC Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and participants will receive free U.S. Constitution booklets. A related display also can be viewed in the library.
- Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 – Cedar Valley College
12:30 to 1:30 p.m., courtyard – CVC government faculty member David McCoy will host the "U.S. Constitution Game Show," and the college will provide free U.S. Constitution booklets, bookmarks and related information.
- Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 – Mountain View College
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., room W38 – MVC faculty members Jonathon York, Larry Pool and Ken Alfers (with others) will participate in a roundtable discussion titled "Three things every American should know about the Constitution, but don't." Copies of the U.S. Constitution also will be available.
- Sept. 27-28, 2006 – El Centro College
Sept. 27, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., performance hall – A panel discussion by elected officials from the area will focus on the topic "Voting in the USA." They will look at groups who were not eligible to vote when the U.S. Constitution was first ratified. Panelists include Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and former state Rep. Harryette Ehrhart, as well as other guests; ECC students will read quotes from historical figures concerning the right to vote, and Gay Michele will moderate the panel discussion. A reception for all participants will be held in the Student Center, following the program; refreshments will include free hot dogs and apple pie, plus musical entertainment by Jerry Jones and the El Centro music department.
Sept. 28, 11:15 a.m., Student Center – Play "Constitution Jeopardy" with Jim Handy, executive dean of student development and support services at El Centro; at least three teams of ECC students will participate.
