(DALLAS) — Applying for college, searching for financial aid and deciding on a school can be daunting for any high school student.

Dallas County Community College District hopes to ease the stress of this complex process with its day-long Dallas County Promise Class of 2020 Kickoff. The event is for students and their parents and takes place Saturday, Oct. 5, from 1-4 p.m. at the University of North Texas at Dallas, 7300 University Hill Blvd. in Dallas.

Information, Food, Fun and FAFSA

Dallas County Promise is the “last dollar scholarship” for students to attend colleges free. The event shows students how to apply for college tuition in three steps:

  1. Take the “Promise Pledge”
  2. Complete FAFSA/TASFA application
  3. Complete college application at applytexas.org

The goal is to help Dallas County students — especially high school seniors — get started on their journey to college, tuition-free, through the Dallas County Promise program, which is funded by the Dallas County Community College District Foundation.

DCCCD is committed to removing barriers that keep Dallas County students from attending college.

Dallas County Promise was launched two years ago and has expanded to include 57 high schools and 22,000 high school seniors across 11 ISDs. It funds tuition at all seven DCCCD colleges as well as nine, four-year colleges. “Promise” also has ties to workforce and economic development with business partners who are actively looking for a well-trained workforce.

The deadline for completing the pledge is Feb. 7, 2020.
