The Dallas County Community College District’s board of trustees approved the appointment of Dr. Linda Braddy as the next president of Brookhaven College.
The board unanimously approved the appointment Tuesday during its regular board meeting. The approval was based on a recommendation by Dr. Joe May, DCCCD’s chancellor.
“Linda has many years of experience in executive leadership positions,” Dr. May said. “Her record of entrepreneurism begins early in her career with the founding of a company from her home. Her passion for the community college mission of equity and service drives her to succeed.”
Braddy, vice president for academic affairs at Tarrant County College, told the board she was honored to join the DCCCD team.
“You all have so many amazing things going on over here — from Dallas County Promise to the Early Childhood Education Baccalaureate Institute at Brookhaven,” she said. “I’m very excited to address the challenges of poverty and inequity and the shortages in the workforce that we see.”
Braddy joined Tarrant County College District in 2009 and served in several roles, including academic support services. She is the former deputy executive director of the Mathematical Association of America in Washington, D.C.
Braddy earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics from East Central University. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Oklahoma.
She replaces Dr. Thom Chesney, who left the district in May to become president of Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. He was named Clarke’s new president in February.
Dr. Justin Lonon, DCCCD’s executive vice chancellor, served as interim president following Chesney’s departure. Lonon will resume his full-time duties at the district office.
Braddy will begin her tenure as Brookhaven College president on Nov. 4.
