Mountain View Colleges' volleyball season was one for the ages – a third place finish, seventeen wins and a top-three finish in the conference.
But head coach Jana Bonds has her sights set even higher in 2020.
"To end the season in third place in the conference and our overall record being 17 [wins] and 18 [losses] meant that all of our hard work paid off," Bonds said. "It also means I have to set my sights higher for the volleyball program here at Mountain View."
Bonds said that, prior to the season beginning, she had three goals she wished to achieve: Finishing in the top-three, making it to the semifinals in the conference tournament and ending with a winning season.
"I only achieved two of the three, so I have to push for all three next season," she said.
Bonds named sophomore Jaylyn Capito, freshman Raven Clater and Suzanne Njoku as girls that stood out to her during the 2019 campaign.
"As a freshman, Capito was put into a role as a hitter, which was out of her comfort zone," Bonds said. "When she came back from the summer, she truly owned the backline - she earned second-team all conference."
Clater also earned second-team all-conference, and Njoku was named Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference member.
"I could not be more proud than I am now," Bonds said. "I'll just say, with our season record ending at 17-18, I believe that with my girls being as skilled and as competitive as they are, our overall record should have ended on the winning side. But, I am more than hopeful that in 2020 we will completely dominate."
