(DALLAS) – Julia So, director of community development for the Dallas County Community College District and current chair-elect of the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce, has received the National Asian Pacific American Institutional Excellence Award from the Organization of Chinese Americans. She is the first recipient of this pioneer award, which previously was given to OCA’s corporate partners for an Asian/Pacific American employee based on her or his contributions to the company and in the community. So received her award – the first recipient to represent an educational institution – on Friday, Oct. 20, during a special event in Plano.

OCA, which was founded in 1973, is a national organization that is dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States; it has 50 chapters throughout the country. Among OCA’s partners that previously received the National Asian Pacific American Corporate Achievement Award are McDonald’s, State Farm Insurance, IBM, Brinker International, Boeing Company, General Motors, Verizon and others.
