The Mountain View College nursing program celebrated the graduation of 13 students on Dec. 11 with its Fall Pinning Ceremony.
The graduates were Joe Boswell, Faron Elizabeth Bradley, Liza Martinez-Corkill, Robert Milo Dickerson, Ashaunti Shantrell Doyle, Taylor Freeman, Queneshia Rena Granger, Carmen Catchings-Hollmon, Isabella K. Makori, Travis Deen Neal, Luzbelle Paullus, Monica Sanchez and Taekgeun Vandygriff.
Throughout the ceremony, the graduates were addressed by Dr. Beatriz Joseph, MVC president; Cherlyn Shultz-Ruth, executive dean of Allied Health and Nursing; Cathy Bryant, nursing professor; and Dr. Lori Doddy, vice president of instruction, among others.
Several graduates spoke during the ceremony, calling the two-year program "the most difficult thing" many had ever gone through, but they know all their hard work will pay off as they care for patients of their own. That was echoed by Shultz-Ruth, who said the students are now prepared for a career in the medical field.
"Today's ceremony symbolizes the rite of passage into the nursing profession, and it celebrates a prestigious accomplishment," said Shultz-Ruth. "This class stood out to me because they represented perseverance through many obstacles and challenges."
The Fall class was the first set of graduates to receive pins from the now-accredited nursing program at Mountain View College.
