Dr. Solomon Cross of Cedar Valley College has been selected as a 2020-2021 Fulbright Scholar to Taiwan as part of the International Education Administration Seminar Award. The United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs oversees Fulbright Programs throughout the world.

The International Education Administrators (IEA) seminars help U.S. international education professionals and senior higher education officials create empowering connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems of other countries. Grantees have the opportunity to learn about the host country’s education system as well as establish networks of U.S. and international colleagues over the course of an intensive two-week grant duration. Grantees return with enhanced ability to serve and encourage international students and prospective study-abroad students.

Dr. Solomon Cross serves as the executive dean of the Liberal Arts and General Education Transfer instructional division at Cedar Valley within the Dallas County Community College District. He has a background in academic affairs, community college leadership, vocal pedagogy, and choral conducting.

Previously Dr. Cross has conducted research and published articles based on his international experience as a Delegate to Cuba in 2013, where he interviewed higher education officials and held site visits in Havana and Santiago de Cuba. Through the International Education Administrator Fulbright Award to Taiwan, Dr. Cross is interested in creating cultural experiences for faculty and students that improve collegial and collaborative instructional activities for the many students he serves.

Dr. Cross is the second CVC educator to be chosen as a Fulbright Scholar. Dr. Jannette Flores, dean of curriculum and assessment, was selected last year as a scholar to India.
