Five El Centro Fashion students, guided by Adjunct Faculty member Maria Luna, took home a win at the Annual Food In Fashion event with their custom designed pizza dress. The student designers were: Camila Uriarte, Gerard Guerrero, Angel Gonzalez, Keven Hernandez and Lauren Fallis.

Food In Fashion was started several years ago to bring members of the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association together for a fun, inspiring event. Randall White, a clever marketing professional, came up with this collaborative idea. The Food In Fashion show is four years old and been a huge success. This year’s event was held at the new Virgin Hotel in the Design District and was the inaugural event for the hotel!

Twelve restaurants were teamed with fashion designers and/ or a school to create fashions that were made of at least 10% food from the respective sponsor. This year, the students designed a dress for Greenville Avenue Pizza Company that featured 80% pizza dough, pizza slices, melted cheese and pepperoni in a necklace. Pizza cutter wristbands & wings made of the pizzeria’s paper emulated a powerful warrior woman. The wings echoed the logo and were engineered to fold & move. All three judges gave a cast their vote for the El Centro student creation.

In 2019 El Centro’s team won for their “Off the Bone” barbeque meat dress.

The event is sponsored by the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association and Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation. Proceeds benefit career development programs in the restaurant and hospitality industries. This need in the workforce is great in North Texas.
