(DALLAS/LANCASTER) — Two Dallas County Community Colleges are boasting a new recognition for their outstanding achievement in producing scholars.

Cedar Valley College and Richland College, each part of Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD), are named among this year’s top-producing associate and baccalaureate institutions by the Fulbright Program.

Both Cedar Valley and Richland each produced one Fulbright scholar, more than any other community college or four-year institution in North Texas. Other institutions on the national list include Ohio State University at Mansfield, Lincoln College and City College of San Francisco.

“We are honored that not one but two of our colleges are on the list this year,” said Dr. Joe May, DCCCD’s chancellor. “This recognition by the Fulbright Program only reaffirms the district’s charge to serve as a top talent-producer in not only the Dallas/Fort Worth area but nationwide and beyond.”

The Fulbright Program serves as the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program. More than 2,200 U.S. students and 900 U.S. college and university faculty and administrators are awarded Fulbright grants annually. In addition, some 4,000 Fulbright Foreign Students and Visiting Scholars come to the United States annually to study, lecture, conduct research or teach their native language.

“We are delighted to see that the colleges and universities we are honoring as 2019-2020 Fulbright Top Producing Institutions reflect the geographic and institutional diversity of higher education in the United States,” said Marie Royce, assistant secretary of state for educational and cultural affairs. “In supporting their faculty and administrators who pursue Fulbright awards, these institutions benefit from new viewpoints from abroad and new international collaborations, which often lead to discoveries and breakthroughs that have a global impact.”

The list of top Fulbright producers was published this week on The Chronicle of Higher Education’s website.
