(DALLAS) — “Smart starts here ” — with the Core Curriculum, that is — for all Dallas County Community College District students.
The core of learning in college is a set of courses that provides students with the skills and educational foundation they need to succeed in higher education. Those classes — called the Core Curriculum — are the courses that lead to an associate degree from DCCCD and which then transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
Change is coming to the DCCCD Core Curriculum, and the district has scheduled a series of question-and-answer sessions at each college throughout the month of November that every student is invited to attend. “We want all of our students, at every college, to bring their questions, share their thoughts and learn more about the new Core Curriculum,” said Becki Williams, who chairs the DCCCD Core Curriculum steering committee. “These sessions will help our students make better decisions about transferring, scheduling and career planning.”
The student-oriented “Smart starts here” sessions are:
- Thursday, Nov. 5 – Cedar Valley College, L117, 11 a.m. to noon
- Tuesday, Nov. 10 – North Lake College, G401, 11 a.m. to noon
- Wednesday, Nov. 11 – El Centro College, C131, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 12 – Richland College, C140, 2 to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 17 – Brookhaven College, X1091, 10 to 11 a.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 19 – Mountain View College, S1029/1030, 11 a.m. to noon
- Friday, Nov. 20 – Eastfield College, LC101/102, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The DCCCD Core Curriculum steering team and members of the Core committees also presented similar session for faculty, staff and administrators in October called “Explore the Core.”
