(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District will celebrate Constitution Day in September with programs, giveaways and entertainment on its college campuses. Lectures and panel discussions about the U.S. Constitution are some of the activities planned.
A list of Constitution Day activities, noted by date and college, is provided below:
Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 13 and 14, 2010 — Eastfield College
- 5:30 p.m. –
Eastfield College faculty member Carlos Rovelo discussed “Citizenship and the U.S. Constitution” at 5:30 p.m. On Tuesday, four faculty members met with students from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and discussed several related topics: Glynn Newman, “The Texas Seven Constitutions”; Cindy Castaneda, “Civil Liberties and Rights”; Phoenix Rousseau, “The U.S. Constitution: A Living Document”; and Allen Brody, “The Bill of Rights.” Eastfield College is located at 3737 Motley Drive in Mesquite.
Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 — El Centro College, North Lake College
- 10:30 a.m. —
El Centro College invites the campus community to play “Constitution Jeopardy” in the Student Center, followed by a panel discussion of the U.S. Constitution in its performance hall from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; attendees will receive a pocket-sized constitution. A reception, which includes judging for “Most Patriotic Attire” among participants, will be held from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. A voter registration drive is scheduled during the week. El Centro is located at 801 Main St. in downtown Dallas.

North Lake College students are invited to participate in a game of “Constitutional Trivia” in the cafeteria during lunch. North Lake College is located at 5001 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving.
Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 — Brookhaven College, Mountain View College, Richland College, Cedar Valley College

Brookhaven College faculty member Bob Little will welcome Dr. Michael Lusztig, professor of political science at Southern Methodist University, to his class; the guest speaker will discuss constitutional law. Government faculty members have a full slate of events planned through the Brookhaven College Institute of Political Studies as well. The college kicked off Constitution Day activities on Sept. 8 when BHC government professor Ahad Hayaud-Din welcomed Dr. Guy Chet, associate professor of history from the University of North Texas, who discussed “The American Revolution and Its Impact on the World Today.” Brookhaven College is located at 3939 Valley View Lane in Farmers Branch/Dallas.
- 10 a.m. — Dallas administrative federal judge Chizoma Ihekere will discuss “Due Process and the Constitution” in room 102 of the Fannin Performance Hall at
Richland College. At 11:15 a.m., a panel discussion in room 118 of Sabine Hall will focus on “The Constitution of Our Constitution,” presented by Richland faculty members Liesl McQuillan, Patrick Moore, Ambronita Douzart, John Trickel and Ed Luter. Presented by the office of student life, the programs are free and open to students and the general public. Richland College is located at 12800 Abrams Road, Dallas.
- 12:30 p.m. —
Mountain View College faculty member Jonathon York will share his presentation with students about the U.S. Constitution in rooms S1029-1030; representatives from the MVC office of student life also will distribute free pocket-sized copies of the constitution. Mountain View College is located at 4849 W. Illinois Ave., Dallas.

Cedar Valley College is sponsoring Constitution Day activities in the courtyard.
