(DALLAS) — During the July meeting of the Dallas County Community College District’s board of trustees, three board members were sworn in for Districts 2, 3 and 4, respectively: returning trustee Bob Ferguson, who was unopposed; Jerry Prater, who also was unopposed; and Bill Metzger, DCCCD’s new trustee, who succeeds his mother, Martha Sanchez Metzger, as the board’s representative in that seat. Maria Miller, legal assistant for the district’s general counsel, administered the oath of office. Family members and friends attended.

During the meeting, board members elected new officers: Jerry Prater was selected to serve as chair, and Charletta Compton is the board’s new vice chair. Trustees also approved a new two-year contract for Dr. Wright Lassiter, DCCCD’s chancellor, with the option to renew for a third year.

Lassiter and the trustees also congratulated representatives from Richland College who reported that one of their new buildings, the Richland College Garland Campus, was listed among the top 10 finalists for the 2010 Topping Out Award, which celebrates teamwork that builds outstanding environments and spaces that have an impact on the community. The Richland College Garland Campus team included DCCCD as owner; VAI Architects Inc., Joe Funk Construction; Charles Gojer and Associates as structural engineers; Pacheco Koch as civil engineers; Reed, Wells, Benson as mechanical and electrical engineers; the Garland Chamber of Commerce as community group; and the city of Garland as public official.

Several other DCCCD projects were nominated for the award: the Cedar Valley College Science/Veterinary Technology/Allied Health Building; the DCCCD Administration Building; the Eastfield College Learning Center; and the Richland College Science Building. All structures nominated for the award were built with funds approved by Dallas County voters during a May 2004 DCCCD bond election. Steve Park, executive director of the DCCCD bond program management team, provided details to board members and also mentioned that Jerry Jones was honored during the ceremony with the Vision Award for the new Cowboys Stadium, and The Bridge received the night’s top honors.
