Would you like to learn more about career opportunities that involve science, technology, engineering and math? Then consider applying for the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (CAS) Program!

The deadline to apply is Feb. 21, 2011, at 5 p.m.
DCCCD has slots for just 45 participants and 10 alternates, who will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis once initial requirements are met. So don’t delay — apply now!

If you’re selected for the NASA-CAS program, you’ll need to complete interactive Web-based activities at home (or anywhere else you have Internet access). Then you’ll participate in an on-site experience at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), where you’ll take part in a team project directed by NASA engineers, attend astronaut briefings and take a tour of NASA JSC facilities. The three-day visit will take place April 13-15.

Transportation, meals, lodging and supplies are provided at no charge to students. We will arrive in Houston on Wednesday, April 13. The program will last all day Wednesday and Thursday and end at about 2 p.m. on Friday.

Many students who participate in the program have a strong background in computers and/or science and engineering, but other students are welcome to apply, too. Part-time and full-time credit students can apply.

To be eligible for this program, you must be:

  • A current (part-time or full-time) credit student at a DCCCD college
  • A U.S. citizen (permanent residents are not eligible)
  • At least 18 years of age and a high school graduate
  • A Texas resident
  • A community/junior college student pursuing an initial undergraduate degree and who has not previously attended CAS events
  • Enrolled or strongly interested in a computer science, math, science or engineering field
  • Able to commit to a one-semester relationship with NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), including a three-day experience during the spring semester held at JSC in Houston
  • Able to access the Internet (at home, at school or at a public library)
