For immediate release — June 2011

(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, to discuss the DCCCD redistricting process. The hearing will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the district’s administrative offices, 1601 S. Lamar St. in Dallas, in the board room. All interested citizens are invited to attend.

During its June 2011 monthly meeting, members of the DCCCD board of trustees adopted an illustrative redistricting plan. During the public hearing, the district’s chancellor and trustees will hear comments from the community concerning the adopted plan as well as any alternate plans submitted by members of the general public.

Persons who wish to submit a plan for redistricting may do so in writing by Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 4:30 p.m.; plans should be addressed to DCCCD’s chancellor, Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., at 1601 S. Lamar St., Dallas TX 75215. Current and proposed district maps, criteria and guidelines for submitting plans for redistricting are available at www.dcccd.edu/redistricting.

DCCCD board policy requires that trustee district boundaries be reviewed every 10 years immediately after the release of the federal government’s decennial census data. When census data indicate substantive changes or that shifts in population have occurred since the previous census, the district’s board of trustees reconfigures the district boundaries to ensure that each trustee represents approximately the same number of constituents.

Currently, DCCCD has seven districts; the adopted illustrative plan retains that number.
